Is Your Team Ready for ERP?

| By Giles Johnston

Choosing an ERP system is a big decision. But choosing the right system does not, by itself, make implementation happen. Your team still needs time and focus to learn it, configure it and make it part of everyday work.

If an implementation is struggling, it is worth asking not only whether the system is right, but whether the team is ready to put it to work.

Who This Article Is For

This article is for business owners, managers and project leads who are selecting an ERP system, preparing to implement one or wondering why an implementation has stalled. It is especially relevant if the software seems suitable but adoption is proving harder than expected.

What Implementation Really Requires

Getting an ERP system live is only part of the job. People need to learn how to use it, configure it for the business and become confident with it. Any new processes also need to become part of normal operations.

For a more repeatable rollout, you may need to go further: write standard operating procedures, prepare onboarding materials and make sure new team members can learn the system without starting from scratch.

That work needs a team with enough capacity and focus to push the project over the line.

What If Your Team Isn’t Ready?

There is no single approach that will work for every team. The first step is to assess what is getting in the way.

Explain the Why

A hearts and minds approach can help people understand why the business is changing systems. Share the reasons, the expected benefits and the business case. Make the connection to their day-to-day work clear: what will improve for them?

Set Clear Expectations

You can mandate use of the new system. That may be necessary, but telling people they have to use it does not automatically give them the time, confidence or understanding to do so. Consider what support they will need alongside that expectation.

Make Adoption Visible

Tracking which parts of the system have been adopted can show where progress is happening and where more help is needed. Visibility gives you a way to respond before gaps become entrenched.

Consider Your Team When Choosing a System

When comparing ERP options, think about what your team can realistically deliver during implementation. That does not necessarily mean choosing a different system. It does mean planning for the effort required to learn and embed the one you choose.

At Fraction ERP, we have aimed to reduce that effort by designing a system that is simple to learn and use. The goal is to make implementation and adoption more straightforward—not to pretend they require no work.

Start With the People

If your ERP implementation is stuck, take a fresh look at your team. Do they need a nudge, more structure, stronger reasons to make the change or a few quick wins that demonstrate its value?

Whatever the answer, make a plan around it. The system matters, but your people are the ones who will make it work.
